Report on the launch of the Ohashi Ophthalmology Department Relocation and Reconstruction Project as part of community contribution activities

2022-10-31
We want to bequeath the landmark Ohashi Ophthalmology Department in Kitasenju to future generations and create a place that is open to the public!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATRONAGE OF NORDESTE AND THE INFINIXX BRAND.

We are pleased to announce that Tomotaka Abe, President & CEO, has launched the "Ohashi Ophthalmology Rebuilding Project" as part of our community contribution activities.

In our hometown of Adachi-ku, downtown Tokyo, there is "Ohashi Ophthalmology Department," which was popular in the community as "the eye doctor with the triangular roof.
The building of Ohashi Ophthalmology Department, which closed in the spring of 2021, was a gorgeous Western-style building with antique parts everywhere, and the first Ohashi Ophthalmology Department was completed in 1917.
Due to aging, the building was reconstructed in 1980, taking over the image of the first building.
At that time, the owner of the building collected gas lamps that stood on Showa Street and reliefs from a movie theater in Asakusa, and embedded antique parts of historical and atmospheric old buildings throughout the building.

However, the decision has been made to demolish this retro building, which has been loved by the people of Kitasenju as a symbol of the city.

Upon hearing this news, we decided to launch a campaign to rebuild the Ohashi Ophthalmology Department, which is about to be demolished, in order to "preserve the downtown scene of Adachi-ku and contribute to the community by passing it on to the next generation" and "breathe new life into the department as the third Ohashi Ophthalmology Department. With this in mind, we have decided to launch a campaign to relocate and reconstruct the Ohashi Ophthalmology Department, which is about to be demolished.

The Ohashi Ophthalmology Department relocation and reconstruction project has been covered by many media outlets.

About the Ohashi Ophthalmology Department Relocation and Reconstruction Project

In Kitasenju, Adachi-ku, where Nordeste's office is located, there is a gorgeous retro Western-style building that is attracting a lot of attention on SNS and other social networking sites as "a building that looks like a movie set.
The Western-style building is actually an eye clinic called "Ohashi Ophthalmology," which closed its doors last spring.
This antique Western-style building with its distinctive triangular roof looks as if it had suddenly wandered into a fantasy world.
Only where Ohashi Ophthalmology Department stands, the roof of the arcade leading from the front of the station is empty, allowing visitors to take a good look at the building.
It can be said that the building has been loved by the local community.

The history of the classic Western-style building can be traced back to 1917, in the early Taisho period (1912-1926). 1980, the building was rebuilt due to aging, but was reconstructed in the image of the original Ohashi Gakka. At that time, antique parts collected from various places by the owner at that time, Hideo Suzuki, were incorporated into the building.

For example, the four gas lamps standing proudly at the entrance originally belonged to Showa Street. Around 1960, before the Tokyo Olympics were held, they were no longer needed for road construction and were acquired at a high cost of transportation.
The carved reliefs on the exterior walls with flowers on either side were originally from the Daishokan movie theater in Asakusa. Other historical and atmospheric parts of old buildings are used throughout.

He is also featured in "Tokyo Kenchiku Kaiko-Roku" (1991, Yomiuri Shimbun), a book that follows the beauty of old buildings, the weight of history, and the buildings that support the foundation of culture with a passionate eye.

We would be more than happy if we could help revitalize our hometown, Kitasenju, Adachi-ku, through the Ohashi Ophthalmology Department relocation and reconstruction project, which has been loved by the local people.
We would appreciate your understanding.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTINUED PATRONAGE OF NORDESTE AND THE INFINIXX BRAND.
